aus khaosod:
Former national police spokesman Prawuth Thawornsiri has returned to Thailand but not shown up for duty, police chief Chakthip Chaijinda said today, saying it was up to the veteran officer whether to address rumors he might be under investigation.

Gen. Prawuth, who was reportedly on vacation in Europe when he was abruptly removed from his post Oct. 27, told his commander by phone that he arrived in Thailand this morning, Chakthip said. Prawuth now has 15 days to report back to work, or face expulsion from the police force entirely, according to Chakthip.

“If he misses work for more than 15 days, regulations allow his supervisor to expel him from the bureaucracy, like what happened to some police officers in the past,” police chief Chakthip told reporters today.

FORMER national police chief Sereepisuth Temeeyaves has been charged along with seven others for allegedly creating public disorder and broadcasting without permission. The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) filed the complaint with police yesterday.
Military officers, led by Lt-Colonel Burin Thongprapai of the Judge Advocate-General's Office, raided Fahai TV in Nontahburi's Pak Kret district on Wednesday.

The action followed the station's broadcast of the Sereepisuth-hosted "Seree Voice", a TV show the officers allege contained content in which Sereepisuth threatened national security by creating public disorder. The officers said the station was unlicensed.

An investigation will be launched into who leaked an police internal memo about Islamic State militants infiltrating Thailand, the chief of national police announced today.

In an apparent effort to dispel anxiety, Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda said police need to take action against the whistleblower behind the memo because it may cause panic. He also sought to play down the significance of the memo, which disseminated a Russian intelligence warning that 10 ISIS-related Syrian militants may be on the loose in Thailand.

“I’m afraid that people may panic, but in fact, it’s routine for us,” Chakthip said. “It’s usual for Syrians to travel here for tourism.”

Police Caught Off Guard by Memo About Possible ISIS Attack

The internal memo – marked “Secret” and “Urgent” – was issued by the Special Branch Police to all of its investigative divisions on Nov. 27 and leaked to the media Thursday night.

As of this morning, that memo seemed to have little impact.Several high-ranking police officers, including commanders of the cities mentioned as possible targets, reached by Khaosod English this morning for comment, said they only learned about the issue from the media.

Emergency meetings were called throughout the Royal Thai Police force today, after which Chakhtip confirmed the memo’s authenticity.

He said it was an internal warning notice for police use only, and vowed to hold the person who leaked it responsible.

“I have assigned deputy police commander Sriwarah Rangsipramnakul to investigate the procedures and facts, to find out how the document managed to leak out,” Chakthip said at today’s news conference. “Once we find the person who leaked it, they will be summoned to tell us how the document was leaked, and what kind of intention they had.”

A recent article by the New York Times appeared to overstate a surge in crime it claimed has hit Thailand since the military seized power.

Report of a dramatic increase in crime under the junta – one of the central assertions in a Nov. 29 article about economic and social malaise in the kingdom – is not supported by crime statistics, and a criminology professor at Chulalongkorn University disputes the figure.

According to “Thai Economy and Spirits are Sagging” by regional correspondent Thomas Fuller, “[r]obberies and other property crimes have risen more than 60 percent this year.”

Crime statistics from the Royal Thai Police show a statistically negligible increase of 1.9 percent, with 920 additional crimes reported during the same period after a general decline since 2009.

New York Times Local Publisher Redacts Article on ‘Sagging’ Thailand

The article, which painted a dire picture of Thailand’s economic prospects, did not include any attribution for the figure or conclusion. Reached for comment, Fuller said it was based on a November news conference at which police spokesman Dechnarong Suticharnbancha said 75,557 property-related crimes were reported in the fiscal year from Oct. 1, 2014 to Sept. 30, 2015.

The actual crime statistics collected by the Royal Thai Police indicate otherwise, with only 48,657 reports of property-related crimes during the same period. Such crimes include theft, robbery and extortion.

The article was one of several recently redacted in local print editions of the International New York Times by its Bangkok-based publisher. It was held up by a number of commentators on social media as an example of the perils of censorship. The reported wave of crime was a striking detail, as it had not been widely reported elsewhere.

Fuller was traveling Wednesday and could not be reached by telephone. Responding by email, he referred questions about the story to the police statistics division, which published the data which is inconsistent with his report.

He also sent links to two reports in Thai media which mention the figure of 75,557 such crimes.

Bangkok police have launched an inquiry into whether a controversial speech by US ambassador Glyn T Davies condemning long prison sentences for lese majeste convictions violated Thailand's royal defamation law...

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... -australia
The police major-general who led the investigation into the widespread trafficking of Rohingya Muslim migrants is seeking political asylum in Australia, saying influential figures in the government, military and police want him dead, Australian media reported Thursday.Pol Maj Gen Paween Pongsirin arrived in Melbourne earlier this week on a tourist visa, but told an Australian Broadcasting Corporation television programme and the Guardian Australia newspaper he plans to seek asylum.

"I worked in the trafficking area to help human beings who were in trouble," he told the Guardian. "I wasn't thinking of a personal benefit but now it is me who is in trouble. I believe there should be some safe place for me, somewhere on this earth to help me."

Pol Maj Gen Paween quit the Royal Thai Police on Nov 5 after being transferred to the Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Centre in the Far South, where he said he had made numerous enemies while investigating and arresting influential figures involved in trafficking of Myanmar and Bangladeshi migrants there.

With his task force having issued 153 warrants and detained 91 people, he said the transfer to the traffickers' sphere of influence put him in danger.

Pol Maj Gen Paween was tapped to head the investigation after more than 30 migrant graves were found in an abandoned traffickers camp in Songkhla province on May 1. The discovery became an international scandal as more camps were found on both sides of the Thai-Malaysian border and the resulting crackdown sparked the boatpeople crisis that stranded thousands of Myanmar and Bangladeshi migrants at sea throughout the summer.

Among those arrested were former senior army adviser Lt Gen Manas Kongpan, a second army officer and scores of top local politicians. A navy officer sought on another arrest warrant remains at large.

The investigation was closed after Pol Maj Gen Paween submitted his first investigation report in late October. He complained to international media that the inquiry was shut down prematurely, saying more suspects were still out there.

National police chief Chakthip Chaijinda accepted his resignation on Nov 16 and it became effective Dec 6. After that, he was free to travel abroad.

The 57-year-old wasted no time in getting to Australia.

Down under, Maj Gen Paween now says that "from the beginning" he was pressured not to pursue the organisers of the trafficking network too aggressively. But he told the Guardian he "followed the evidence", leading to 88 defendants who "let victims starve, denied health treatments for sick victims and hid bodies" ending up in court.

"Influential people are involved in human trafficking. There are some bad police and bad military who do these kind of things. Unfortunately, those bad police and bad military are the ones that have power," the newspaper quoted him as saying.

"By re-posting me to the Deep South of Thailand it means they wanted to kill me," he said.

He told the newspaper he fears the upcoming trials will see many of those charged walk free. He was supposed to testify at those trials and claims other witnesses will be intimidated.

"I feel so sad and it's so unfair that these people will not be punished," he said.

Pol Maj Gen Paween's asylum case likely will reverberate loudly around the world. He told the Guardian he has doesn't know how the Thai government will react and says he is "deeply saddened" by being forced to leave.

So iss fein:
http://www.nationmultimedia.com/nationa ... 74756.html
SUPERVISORS OF the former chief investigator probing a high-profile human smuggling case reacted angrily yesterday to his accusation that he got no protection from them despite death threats faced by him.

Pol Maj-General Paween Pongsirin, who quit the police force last month and is now seeking political asylum in Australia, told Australian media that he feared for his life because influential figures in the military and police implicated in the illicit trade wanted him dead.

"There are some bad police and bad military who do this kind of thing," Paween told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. "Unfortunately, those bad police and military are the ones that have power."

National police chief General Chakthip Chaijinda said that he suspected Paween's comments might be politically motivated and that they were intended to damage Thailand's reputation. He suggested that legal action could be taken against him.

"I have ordered the legal team to look into Paween's claim about the influential figures to determine their identities. We are also considering taking legal action against him for defamation," Chakthip said.

He maintained that Paween's transfer to the southern border area was not done out of spite. "There was no attempt to persecute him or anything," Chakthip said.

Also zunaechst mal eine typische Thainess Tat.

http://der-farang.com/de/pages/108-ausl ... stgenommen

A B E R !

Ansonsten Business as Usual.
